After a storm there are always pieces of tree branches and leaves all over the yard and street. Last night was one of those storms. Our power even went out for an hour. The aftermath of the storm was evident all around us. Luckily, it was only small pieces of debris.
As I thought about picking up the broken limbs and leaves, I remembered a picture in my book, Big Changes For Little Bugs, which describes a storm that destroys the home of my four bugs. The bush is uprooted and broken, and limbs are scattered around. It looks bad…and it is for the bugs. They don’t have a home anymore. Their future is up in the air. They have been uprooted and are afraid.
The master gardener comes to look at the damage and has to make a tough decision. The bush must be moved so it can grow strong again. The roots are exposed and it will not survive without soil, and water. He loads the bush in his wheelbarrow to move it.
IT MUST BE MOVED SO IT CAN LIVE AGAIN!
A wheelbarrow is only used for moving and carrying things…that is it’s only purpose. The wheelbarrow is a symbol of picking up the pieces and moving on.
Sometimes in our own lives, a storm has destroyed everything around us. It could be a real storm of nature, or a storm of life. When this happens, you must decide to live again.
If children are involved, you will have many emotions to sort through.
Will they survive this storm?
Will they be mad at me?
Will they make new friends?
WILL I MAKE IT?
Moving on is part of life. Everyone has some event that has brought big changes in their lives. Relocation, displacement after a natural disaster such as recent hurricanes in the USA, deployment, death, divorce, are some reasons. Sometimes happy events cause moves, such as a baby, a new job, and moving closer to family. It can be a positive event or a negative moment that causes the big change in your life.
HOW WILL YOU LIVE AGAIN?
In my life I have experienced many moves…most of them have been for positive reasons…or maybe that’s how I choose to look at them. As a child, living overseas on the mission field involved many relocations, all of which I see as positive experiences. As a college girl, new surroundings were exciting and revealing. I could find my way in this world by myself. As a newlywed, wife, and mother, many job transfers were part of our family’s path. Each one was an agonizing, prayerful decision…how will the children take it? Will they hate us forever? Maybe they will get it over it one day!
FAITH IN GOD’S PLAN HAS ALWAYS BEEN MY GUIDE IN DECISIONS.
Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” New International Version
Where are you looking for guidance in the storms of life? How do you pick up the pieces and move on?
The Bible tells of many stormy days in the lives of it’s people…but God always had his hand on the final direction and destination.
He still works today! You may wonder if He has forgotten you, or doesn’t care about your family. Big storms may be ahead, or you may be in the middle of one…DO NOT BE AFRAID!
Read Hebrews 11 and you will see God’s hand on every event. Even though some did not see the final outcome during their lifetimes, God always had and still has something better for his followers.
Hebrews 11:6 “ And without faith it is impossible to please GOD, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that he exists and that he REWARDS THOSE WHO EARNESTLY SEEK HIM.
ARE YOU SEEKING HIM, EARNESTLY?
He will help you pick up the pieces and carry you in his wheelbarrow to a new life so you can live and grow strong again.
If you have a child facing big changes, please read Big Changes For Little Bugs, so they can see there is hope after a storm. New lives and skills that each bug character discovers gives them a brighter future. Learning to look at the future with a positive attitude will make any big change easier. Teaching children about faith in God’s plan gives them security and comfort that life will get better, and that God cares for them and will carry them in HIS wheelbarrow and help them rebuild their lives.
