The Truth Is Inside

You Can Change Your Testimony

You Can Change Your Testimony

Inside of a seed is the truth. Unless you are looking at a seed package, a random seed will not tell you what it is. A bulb also has a secret inside. A daffodil, a tulip, or an onion…they all look similar. But when they bloom, we know the secret.

What’s hiding inside of you? Is your secret out? Do we know if you’re a flower or an onion?

Most of us hide our truth…we are flawed. We look good on the outside, but if you cut us open, we might smell like an onion.

Is this scary to you? It is to me. Sometimes I don’t feel so sweet inside…

A seed is deceiving. It might be a giant sequoia hiding in there!

Eventually the truth reveals itself…if it grows long enough, the sequoia becomes a giant tree.

We reveal ourselves too…The people around us know us best. We have hurt places inside that show up in time. Just like a tree that experiences a forest fire, or an infestation of pests, the truth shows up in its rings . If the tree survives, it keeps adding layers over the injury to protect itself and continue growing.

We do the same…we protect ourselves daily from fires and pests in our lives. We grow another layer to survive.

What keeps you alive?

I Samuel 16:7 The Message

“ But God told Samuel. Looks aren’t everything. Don’t be impressed with his looks and stature. I’ve already eliminated him. God judges persons differently than humans do. Men and women look at the face; God looks into the heart.”

These verses really make me squirm. God looks into the heart! He knows I act terrible sometimes. The interesting thing about this story is that God knew that David, his chosen one, would smell like a rotten onion sometimes, but he still chose him to be King over Israel, and to be in the family tree of Jesus. Wow!! He knows our insides better than we do, and he believes we can become giant sequoias.

In I Samuel 16: 13 it says, “ The spirit of God entered David like a rush of wind, God vitally empowering him for the rest of his life.” The Message.

David was empowered by God, but he forgot who empowered him sometimes. He did many things that disappointed God, but he was forgiven many times… and we can be forgiven, if we ask.

We can impact our family tree, starting today.

If your family tree has been damaged by something, you can heal the wound by allowing the Lord to enter you and empower you for the rest of your life. The future of YOU is important to your family.

If you are a woman, you have a circle of people that live around you…children, husband, grandchildren, fellow employees. These people watch you daily, and you impact them.

The saying “If Momma ain’t happy, nobody is happy” is really a sad statement. I think what it’s really saying is that you…Mom, Wife, Sister, Daughter, Woman…You need to think about the people you impact, and stop stinking like a rotten onion.

God can help you change inside.

Start absorbing different nutrients. Your food and water needs to be nourishing and healthy.

Jesus says in John 4: 13,, “ Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

Do you want to never be thirsty again? Do you want to have eternal life?

The woman who Jesus was speaking to was rotten inside, and she wanted to never come to the well again, but He filled her spirit up and she changed the town because of the change in her life testimony.

You can change the town, your family, your work, your home, your testimony.

John 4:42 says, “ they (the town) said to the woman, We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves and we know that this man really is the SAVIOR OF THE WORLD.”

Her testimony changed everyone.

Change YOU first, and the impact on the people around you will be eternal.

Growth Rings: The Circles of Life

It was dead and dangerous, just waiting to fall. When? No one knew, but stormy days were extra scary. Would it fall today?

Instead of waiting for the loud thud to come one night, a saw and two men took charge of the day it was to fall. As one man sawed, another man pulled, and in slow motion, the tree collapsed upon itself, rotten and dead inside. The stump revealed it’s years of growth, ring after ring.  The bark on the outside hid what was on the had stopped a long time ago.

The core of the tree is called heartwood. “It is the central supporting pillar of the tree. Although dead, it will not decay or lose strength while the outer layers are intact... it is in many ways as strong as steel.” Arbor Day Foundation

That sentence says it all...

Our human hearts are our core, strong as steel.

When you study the rings, you learn so much.  Some years were drought years, some years were plenty.

Same for me, and probably you.

The circles of life are revealed in the growth rings, year by year.  Many things affect a tree’s growth, and we are not any different. The thickness of each tree ring is different, depending on the year. Some year’s the tree experiences a trauma, and it will compensate and grow a callous layer to protect it.  We do the same thing...we harden ourselves, and grow a layer of bark that protects us from more pain.

How has your year been? Painful? Joyful? Plenty? Drought?

Each of us experience things that mark us for life. If you were to take a cross section today of your life, what would it look like?

Are you still living?

Have you died inside, and no one knows it?

God knows it, and He is allowing you to form a callous so you can keep growing.  He doesn’t want you to stop growing, even though you have been hurt. Just like the tree’s are as strong as steel.

You may not feel strong, in fact the next storm could send you crashing to the ground, but deep inside you is the pipeline of faith that gives you strength to keep going. A tree’s pipeline provides nutrients to grow new leaves.

Faith is nutrition for your soul.

Are you lacking the proper nutrients? If a tree does not eat correctly, it will not grow strong. Neither will you.

Jeremiah 17: 7-8 NIV “Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence (Faith) is in Him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out it’s roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

What will next year’s growth ring in your life look like?

You can live abundantly with no fear of drought by trusting in God’s plan for you. He will be with you if you allow him to be your Pipeline of Food and Faith. No fear of the future is His gift to you when you put your roots in Him.

Ephesians 3:17 NLT “ Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him.  Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.”

Strong Roots grow Strong Fruit.  Let’s grow strong together next year!
